Islam and the Quran

Common Belief Mistakes – Preface

Question: BismilahirRahmanirRahim (It is) a Book We have revealed to you abounding in good that they may ponder over its verses, and that those endowed with understanding may be mindful.(Sad 38/29)

PREFACE – Of the book “Dogru Bilinen Yanlislar” by Abdulaziz BAYINDIR

Our religion has a book as well as a prophet. Allah promised to keep the book intact. Allah claims: “Surely We have revealed the Reminder and We will most surely be its guardian” (Al-Hijr Valley 15/9). The Prophet has been charged of preaching and behaving in accordance with the Holy Qur’an. The Glorified Allah commands: “And when you bring them not a revelation they say: Why do you not forge it? Say: I only follow what is revealed to me from my Lord.” (Al A’raf /Purgatory 7/203).

The statements and practice of the Prophet, that is Sunnah, who inevitably was obliged to obey the rules of Qur’an, should be evaluated under the light of Qur’an. This is the best way to avoid inevitable mistakes and bad intentions about Islam.

There are considerable number of different schools – Mazhab – and books belonging to these schools on the issues of catechism, jurisprudence, theologian philosophy, and so on. By evaluating these books under the light of Qur’an and Sunnah, we may prevent belief mistakes and false ideas as well.

Whoever analyzes the Holy Qur’an, will see that wrong judgements in several religious books have their roots deep in the past. Qur’an had predicted this phenomenon. The Glorified Allah commands: “And the Messenger will say: O my Lord! Surely my people have treated this Qur’an as a forsaken (thing).” (Al-Furqan/ The Criterion 25/30).

According to the testimony of Ibn Abbas, the Prophet once made such a speech: “You all will be united barefoot, naked and uncircumcised. Just the way stated in the verse: “As We originated the first creation, (so) We shall reproduce it; a promise (binding on Us); surely We will bring it about.” (Al Anbia/The Prophets 21/104). The first to be clothed on the Judgment Day is Ibrahim (Abraham). A group of my followers will be taken on the left, while I still will be saying: “My followers! My followers!” The Glorified Allah will state: “They are the ones that after you left, started to go backwards.” Then I, like Jesus will say “I was a witness of them so long as I was among them, but when You did cause me to die, You were the watcher over them, and You are witness of all things.
If You should chastise them, then surely they are Your servants; and if You should forgive them, then surely You are the Mighty, the Wise.
” (Al Ma’edah/ The Feast 5/117-118) (Buhari, Al Anbiya/8)

During the history, always existed ones who wanted to benefit from religion. Political, social, economical etc, whatever the reason is, the ones that see the religion as a way of profit always harm it. If these individuals happen to be scholars of wide influence, the consequences grow bigger and more permanent. Since the intentions of many are unknown, it is necessary to be constantly vigilant and approach every opinion or accomplishment that supposedly take place under the umbrella of religion with a certain amount of suspicion.

It was this suspicion that led us to reexamine the methods of understanding Qur’an, the commentary techniques and to conclude that main ideas like muhkam, mutashabih, mesani, and naskh had been defined differently than the meaning given to them by the related verses. This conclusion led us to the technique of explaining the Qur’an within the Qur’an itself. This technique which structures the final part of this book, will re-establish a number of erroneous information.

We tried to open a blank white page. This is why this book, from the first to the last page, is full of totally innovative ideas. The true novelty is the fact that every single item has been treated under the light of the unity of Qur’an and Sunnah.

Our studies continue with a number of experts of Arabic, Qur’an, Sunnah, History, Jurisprudence, Theological Principles, Economics, Philosophy etc., in Suleymaniye Foundation. Our work has been supported by traders, industrialists, workers, official and simple citizens. The vast numbers of questions that come everyday to the web site of our foundation are aiding us discover the problems and expectations of people. This is why we tried to present the most difficult issues with comprehensive language.

Our target is to open and preach the Holy Qur’an to everyone regardless of their identity. We believe that, learning the religion by the Book of God rather then the books of other individuals will be the starting point of an inevitable mentality change.
We made the effort and hopefully Allah will provide us with success.
