The Glorified Allah commands in the 15.th verse of Nisa that:

“Call four witnesses among you against those of your woman who commit prostitution/illegal sexual intercourse/adultery. If they testify, confine them (women) to houses. That is so until death take them, or until Allah appoint for them a way.”

As it is understood by the underlined part of the verse, a new legal norm will be set in relation with women that commit adultery. Thus, after a time, the 2.nd verse of Sura Nur has been revelated and the legal norm related to them has been appointed. The Glorified Allah commands:

“Flog each of them, from the woman and the man, guilty of adultery/illegal sexual intercourse, hundred stripes. If you believe in Allah and in the Last Day, don’t become tender to them when you perform the order of Allah. Let a party of the believers testify with their own eyes this punishment done to them”(Nur 24/2))

For that reason, it is impossible to think that the 15.th verse of Nisa intends lesbians. There is no any fact about “a way appointed to them” by Allah. But there are legal norms, explained by the other verses, in relation to the adulterers (men and women).

For the reason that adultery/illegal sexual intercourse is a reciprocal act, the punishment for men has been appointed in the following verse of Nisa.

“Punish/hurt both of them/ man and woman, among you that commit

adultery/illegal sexual intercourse. If they repent and correct themselves, then let them. Allah accept the repentance. He is Most Merciful.” (Nisa 4/16)

The pronouns in this verse are masculine (ellezani) because of Arabic grammatical structure. There is a norm, called Taglib in Arabic, according to that, the pronoun or the verb that will be used for man and woman together, has to be masculine.
