In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Beneficent
اِذَا جَٓاءَكَ الْمُنَافِقُونَ قَالُوا نَشْهَدُ اِنَّكَ لَرَسُولُ اللّٰهِۢ وَاللّٰهُ يَعْلَمُ اِنَّكَ لَرَسُولُهُۜ وَاللّٰهُ يَشْهَدُ اِنَّ الْمُنَافِق۪ينَ لَـكَاذِبُونَۚ {1}
1. When the hypocrites come to you, they say: “We bear witness that you are surely the Messenger of God.” God knows that you are indeed His Messenger, and God bears witness that the hypocrites are surely liars.
2. They have made their oaths a cover [for themselves], and thus they have barred [others] from the path of God. Evil indeed is what they have been doing.
3. That is because they believed and then ignored the truth; so a seal was set upon their hearts, and [now] they do not understand [the core of the matter].
4. When you see them, their physical builds please you; and if they speak, you listen to their speech. [Yet] they are like propped-up timbers. They think every shout is against them. They are the [true] enemy, so beware of them. May God destroy them! How are they turned away [from the truth]?
5. When it is said to them, “Come, let the Messenger of God ask forgiveness for you,” they turn their heads away, and you see them turning away [from your call] while they are arrogant.
6. It is the same for them whether you ask forgiveness for them or do not ask forgiveness for them; God will never forgive them. Surely, God does not guide the people who have gone astray.
7. They are the ones who say: “Do not spend on those who are with the Messenger of God until they disperse.” Yet to God belong the treasuries of the heavens and the earth, but the hypocrites do not understand.
8. They say: “If we return to Madinah, the more honorable [one] will surely expel the lowlier [one] from there.” Yet all honor belongs to God, and to His Messenger, and to the believers, but the hypocrites do not know.
9. O you who have believed! Let not your wealth and your children distract you from the remembrance of God. And whoever does that—then it is those who are the losers.
10. And spend out of what We have provided for you before death comes to one of you and he says: “My Master! If only You would delay me for a short term so that I could give charity and be among the righteous.”
11. But God will never delay a soul when its appointed time has come. And God is fully aware of what you do.
