Whose approval stands first in marriage?

Question: Whose approval stands first in marriage? The parents or the daughter? Suppose the man and woman resides in different nations and want to marry, would the lady accept his offer first and then let her parents know? Because there is still a doubt that parents might refuse. What to do in this case?

If it will be the first marriage of the woman, she and her friend should first talk with her parents. If the parents refuse, their reasons should be listened and evaluated. If the couple still wants to marry, they should call her parents to duty for wedding. If her parents refuse, then the couple can apply to the official authorities for marriage. The final decision belongs to woman. She cannot be prevented from marriage if she has decided to do so.

If it will not be the first marriage of the woman, she doesn’t have to get permission from her parents. She and her friend can go and apply directly to the official authorities for marriage.

Nevertheless, respecting the parents’ thoughts and guarding the good relations between is highly suggested in these situations. Whatever the couples decide to do, they should do it without offending their older relatives. Couples shouldn’t forget that families can be emotional, but they are the ones that know them best and they always aspire to their children’s own good.
